ROGERS, AR — Goodwill’s mission of changing lives through education, training and employment starts with removing barriers to create opportunities. Goodwill is helping individuals in Northwest Arkansas earn their General Equivalency Diploma (GED), demonstrate employability with a Workforce Alliance for Growth in the Economy (WAGE) certificate and learn English as a second language. Goodwill is partnering with Northwest Arkansas Community College, Fayetteville Adult Education and Northwest Technical Institute to offer free classes at Siloam Springs, Rogers, Fayetteville and Springdale Career Centers.
Passing the GED test is important, and it can increase your wages and allow you to attend college. In the same regard, earning a WAGE certificate is beneficial for individuals seeking to advance their careers. Students interested in computer class may work to complete WAGE certificates in employability, customer service, banking, industrial and office technology.
Carolyn Sanders, Career Services Manager for Northwest Arkansas, said, “We are excited to offer these classes in our career centers that are in line with our Goodwill mission. Our goal is to help individuals take the positive steps to help them advance their careers and overall quality of life.”
New to the career center in Rogers is English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, which helps individuals improve their English proficiency so that they can have more employment opportunities. Sanders added, “One of the biggest challenges to employment for individuals of Hispanic heritage are language and literacy, and Goodwill wants to help them overcome these challenges so that they can obtain employment or find better jobs.”
In addition to offering free classes, Goodwill Career Centers offer help with resume assistance, job search, interview practice and more to help Arkansans find jobs with local businesses. For more information about classes and other career services, call the following Goodwill Career Centers:
