Our Mission

Graylin Ross

You gave me guidance

Graylin Ross’ mother is a huge cheerleader when it comes to Goodwill. “Goodwill changed my son’s life. We are so glad we came here.”

Diagnosed with a mental illness, Graylin Ross was referred to Goodwill with no recent job history, lack of social skills, and little understanding of the value of holding a job. Under the direction of job coach Bill Watson, Graylin began to understand the importance of getting and keeping a job. Watson also gave Graylin guidance on how to dress for interviews and work.

Graylin participated in Goodwill’s job training program working in the plant-processing center sorting donated items. Goodwill supervisors quickly noticed what a hard worker Graylin was, his great work ethic and excellent attendance.

Graylin took his job coach’s guidance about getting and keeping a job to heart. Upon graduation from Goodwill, Graylin was hired by Home Depot as a lot attendant responsible for keeping the lot clear of carts and trash. Four years later, Graylin is still with Home Depot and has become certified in all 13 areas of the store, exhibiting substantial product knowledge. Even more impressive, his attitude about attendance has continued while at Home Depot, only missing 2 days of work in 4 years.

Graylin’s social ability has also grown tremendoulsy due to his experience at Goodwill and Home Depot which helped prepare him to move into a Customer Service Associate position with Home Depot.

Finally able to hold a steady job, Graylin has been able to get his own apartment, car and the satisfaction of knowing he can live independently.
