Why Donate to Goodwill

Your Donations Change Lives
When you donate your gently used clothing, books, housewares, jewelry, tools, furniture, or toys that you no longer need to Goodwill Industries of Arkansas, a 501c(3) non-profit, wonderful things happen! Your donations support jobs in our stores. Then, when people buy the items, we use the revenue to support our programs and services which are offered free to people with disabilities and other barriers in order to help them achieve the dignity and independence that work provides.Did you know that one pair of jeans can provide someone in our community with about 10 minutes of resume preparation services? This could be a person in your community who doesn't have a job and is struggling to support a family. Your donations have a real impact on the people here in your community.

A word about for-profit thrift stores
More and more for-profit thrift shops are moving into the area. If you donate to one of these organizations, you may not be eligible for a tax deduction, and revenues earned might not be returned to your community to fund programs and services. If this is important to you, ask the shop if it is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and request a report showing how its funds are used before you decide where to donate.
Additionally, some thrift stores solicit donations under the name of a charitable organization, but as little as five percent of the money generated from these donations may actually go to the charity. Nationally, Goodwill is consistently ranked among the top charities that make your donations go further.
Goodwill Industries of Arkansas is a not-for-profit business that is registered with the IRS as a 501c(3) organization, so your donation supports our mission and your donations are tax deductible.
