Resume Assistance & Job Readiness Skills
Goodwill’s career specialists are available to aid participants with resume preparation, how to write a cover letter, search for a job, complete job applications, and even with interviewing skills.
Job Search Assistance
Career Specialists help participants explore different kinds of positions and locate job openings that are possible good matches. Participants learn to use computers, newspapers and other employment resources to identify all the career opportunities available.
Job Placement
At Goodwill, we strive to help people find good jobs in one of our retail or donation centers, or outside Goodwill with another employer. Career Specialists will assist you in identifying appropriate openings, prepare a resume, practice interviewing, and complete applications. Career Specialists may contact prospective employers to find appropriate job openings.
Personal Development & Soft Skills Training
Goodwill’s “Soft Skills” training focuses on getting participants “job ready” by improving the skills, abilities and traits that pertain to personality, attitude and behavior. Proper workplace behavior, timeliness and communication are some of the components of Goodwill’s soft skills training.
Computer Labs
Our Career Centers have a Computer Lab and skills training classes that are free and open to the public. The Computer Lab provides computers with high-speed Internet access allowing program participants to come in any time to conduct job searches and fill out applications on their own. Plus Goodwill offers self-guided software tutorials and instructor-led classes in order to enhance your computer skills. The class offerings vary at each center but often include Microsoft Office, keyboarding, money management and basic computer skills.
Career Counseling
Our Career Specialists will work with you to identify your work skills, interests and experience in order to provide job leads in the community based on your strengths. We will create a plan with your goals in mind and work hard to help you locate employment and overcome potential barriers to successful employment, such as family or transportation issues. Whether you need more information, additional training or just have questions to ask, our Career Specialists are there to provide the personal assistance you need.
Adult Education*
To help fill gaps in their education and improve basic skills in preparation for successful job training, we offer participants free basic education classes at our Career Centers and Adult Education Centers. Classes vary by location, but include: basic computer training, Microsoft Office training, basic reading and math skills, GED preparation and more.
Getting started
It all begins with orientation to learn about our services. Our main facility located at 1110 W. 7th Street in Little Rock holds group orientation every Thursday at 9am and 1:30pm. All other career centers hold individual orientations upon arrival. Please bring a current resume (if you have one), and anything else that would enhance your job search such as certificates earned. After a brief orientation, you will be scheduled for an interview with a career specialist who will determine how we can help in your job search. Once you have filled out your Job Connection Form at your initial meeting, you can come in to any Goodwill Career Center as often as you like any time during open hours to do job searches, look through job leads or use any of Goodwill’s resources. You can also make appointments to see the Career Specialists to assist in your job search efforts. What are you waiting for?
