2. DONATE, SHOP, CHANGE A LIFE!™
Many people think Goodwill stores exist only to sell used items for low prices to people who are on limited incomes. While we are happy that we can provide affordable goods, that is not our mission.
Goodwill Industries of Arkansas is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Our stores exist to support our life-changing mission of helping individuals overcome barriers to employment. From helping individuals with a disability attain employment, helping returning citizens find good jobs and reestablish relationships with family and the community, providing job training and coaching to young adults on the autism spectrum to upskilling people with a certificate for high demand careers, we help anyone who wants a hand up, not a hand out, find a better life. Our Goodwill offers a wide variety of job training programs and support services in Arkansas, all based on community needs assessments.
When you donate or shop at Goodwill, you make an impact in Arkansas. Nearly 90 cents of every dollar generated goes back in to our mission of changing lives through education, training and employment. In 2016, we turned over 553,000 donor transactions into over 224,000 services to help Arkansans train and compete for good jobs.
3. EVERY GOODWILL EMPLOYEE IS PAID AT OR ABOVE THE FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE.
All of Goodwill Industries of Arkansas’s 800+ employees and trainees earn at or above the state and federal minimum wage. We do not use the Special Subminimum Wage Certificate that provides employment support to individuals with disabilities.
As a CARF accredited agency, Goodwill programs provide services and support to individuals with disabilities so that they may exercise their right to become productive citizens contribute to the community. 4. THIS IS BRIAN ITZKOWITZ, OUR PRESIDENT & CEO.
Like other not-for-profit organizations, Goodwill Industries of Arkansas is led by a volunteer Board of Directors, made up of respected business and community leaders who provide guidance and oversight. Goodwill is not “owned” by anyone. There are false stories about Goodwill that you may see online. Mark Curran is not, and never has been, the president & CEO of Goodwill Industries of Arkansas, Goodwill Industries International or any Goodwill member organization.
As our President & CEO, Brian Itzkowitz is responsible and accountable for the effectiveness of our organization. He leads more than 800 team members, more than 40 locations and is accountable for ensuring that one of Arkansas’s largest not-for-profit organizations fulfills its mission now and in the future. Since Brian’s arrival in 2008, Goodwill has increased the number of people placed in employment from 89 to more than 4,500. The organization has increased the number of Arkansans it serves from 1,100 to more than 27,800 annually.
5. WE ARE AN INDEPENDENT ORGANIZATION.
Goodwill Industries of Arkansas is one of more than 160 independent members of Goodwill Industries International, including organizations in Canada. Each is independently operated and funded. Member agencies must adhere to professional, financial, legal and branding guidelines set forth by Goodwill Industries International.
While we have similar missions, each Goodwill is unique in the programs it offers and how it operates its business because each of the communities we serve is unique. Goodwill Industries of Arkansas serves the entire state of Arkansas with 42 donation centers, 34 stores and 22 career centers.
