Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Goodwill’s mission?
A: Goodwill changes lives through education, training and employment. We accomplish this mission by selling donated goods in our retail stores.

Q: Who does Goodwill help?
A: Goodwill helps any Arkansan who is having problems obtaining employment.

Q: What are career centers?
A: Career centers have the resources to help Arkansans train for and get jobs. Anyone can meet with a career specialist to search for jobs, get assistance with resumes, cover letters, interview skills and job applications. Classes and programs to earn certifications such as a GED, high school diploma and specialized training are also offered in our career centers.  Career centers are typically located inside our Goodwill stores. Find a Goodwill Career Center near you or call 501-372-5100.

Q: Why should I donate to Goodwill?
A: At Goodwill, 96 percent of our funding comes from the sale of donated goods. When you donate to and shop at Goodwill, you help provide education, training and job placement services for Arkansans. Items donated to Goodwill can be claimed as charitable deductions, and there are more than 40 locations throughout Arkansas where you can donate your items. By accepting donations and selling them in our stores, Goodwill has diverted more than 20 million pounds from Arkansas landfills.

Q: What happens to items that are donated to Goodwill?
A: Donations are sorted by category (electronics, women's clothing, men's clothing, toys, etc.) and priced at the store. Donations then go onto the sales floor at the store. If they have not sold after five weeks, they are sold in Goodwill’s Outlet Store for $1.39/lb.

Q: Does Goodwill accept everything?
A: No. Goodwill does not accept hazardous material, CPSC-recalled items, large appliances and used mattresses/box springs. You can find a complete list of what we do and don’t accept on our Donate page.

Q: When donating computers, should I purge the operating system and other software?
A: Yes. Goodwill assumes no liability for personal or confidential information left on computers. It is recommended you erase all data before recycling. Customers are responsible for removing data from their hard drives.

Q: Are donations to Goodwill tax deductible?
A: Donations to Goodwill can be claimed as a charitable tax deduction. Goodwill provides receipts when you donate items. For monetary contributions, donors will be provided a receipt to confirm their contribution amount. If you made a contribution and have not received your receipt, or if you've lost your receipt for your monetary contribution, please call 501-372-5100. Please reference the date you submitted your contribution as well as the method of payment.

Q: How do I assess a value for each item I donated?
A: Use Goodwill’s Valuation Guide so you can value the items you donate to Goodwill and send to the Internal Revenue Service with your yearly taxes.

Q: If I give to Goodwill, will my personal information be shared with other organizations?
A: No. Goodwill does not sell, rent, barter or otherwise share the personal information of our donors with any outside organizations.
